Trading Terminology
Simple explanations for common trading terms and concepts.
Margin
Margin means money.
- It is the amount of money available in your trading account to place trades.
- In strategy tester, margin is virtual (fake) money used for practice.
Trading Account
A separate wallet inside the platform where you trade.
- Users can create multiple trading accounts, each with its own margin and trades.
Futures
A contract where you agree to buy or sell an asset at a future time.
- In futures trading, profit or loss depends on price movement.
Options
A contract that gives you the right, but not obligation, to buy or sell.
- Options have Call and Put types.
Call Option
You buy a Call when you expect the price to go up ๐
- Profit increases when price rises.
Put Option
You buy a Put when you expect the price to go down ๐
- Profit increases when price falls.
Long Position
Long means Buy first, Sell later.
- You make profit if price moves in your favor.
Short Position
Short means Sell first, Buy later.
- You make profit if price moves down.
Market Order
Order is executed immediately at current market price.
Limit Order
Order is executed only at your chosen price or better.
Stop Loss (SL)
A safety order to limit loss.
- Trade automatically closes when loss reaches your set level.
Take Profit (TP)
A target order to lock profits.
- Trade closes automatically when profit target is reached.
Order Book
Live list of buy and sell orders currently in the market.
Position
An active trade that is currently open.
Order History
Record of all past orders (open, closed, cancelled).
Fee
Trading cost charged per order.
- Even in strategy tester, fees help simulate real market conditions.
PnL (Profit and Loss)
Shows how much you gained or lost on a trade.
- Can be Realized (closed trades) or Unrealized (open trades).
Leverage
Allows trading with more money than your margin.
- Example: 10x leverage means โน1,000 margin controls โน10,000 trade.
- โ ๏ธ Higher leverage = higher risk.
Option Chain
A table showing all available option strikes, prices, volume, and open interest.
Global News
Market-related news that can impact prices.
Liquidation
When losses exceed allowed margin, the position is forcefully closed.
